On The Trail of “Planet X”



THE CASE OF THE FRENCH ASTRONOMER



In ancient Sumer the highlight of
the New Year celebration was the
public reading of Enuma Elish, the
“Epic of Creation.” Scholars have
treated the long text (inscribed on
seven clay tablets) as an allegory
of a struggle between good and evil,
between a benevolent celestial god
and a celestial monster.



In my books I treated the ancient
text as a sophisticated scientific
cosmogony about the formation of our
solar system, and a celestial
collision in which a planet called
“Tiamat” was destroyed by the
invading planet “Nibiru,” bringing
about the Earth and the Moon.
Nibiru (renamed “Marduk” by the
Babylonians) itself was caught into
permanent elongated orbit around the
Sun, becoming the twelfth member of
our Solar System (the Sumerians
counted the Sun, the Moon, and –
with Nibiru – ten planets).



The Unavoidable Collision



Many astronomers and astrophysicists, struggling
to explain the Asteroid Belt (between Mars and
Jupiter) and the origin of our Moon, find it
unavoidable to include a celestial collision in
their explanatory theories.



The British weekly New Scientist devoted the
cover of a recent issue to “The Planet That
Stalked the Earth.” The long lead article
offers theories about a “rogue planet” involved
in the collision. What I found most fascinating
in the article’s suggestions is its calling the
enigmatic planet THEIA – without explaining why.
Was someone thinking of Tiamat?



A ‘Phantom Planet’



Last year, in France, a pending discovery –- an
astounding discovery – was announced in the
pages of the prestigious monthly Science &
Vie (“Science and Life”). In its issue of
February 2003 it published an update on the
planetary makeup of our Solar System in light of
recent discoveries in the “Kuiper Belt” (a zone
on the Solar System’s fringes). Titled “PLANETS
– But How Many Are There In Our Solar System?”
the long article, by the journal’s Valerie
Greffos, made a sensational announcement: there
is one more, unknown, planet in our Solar System
–



“A ‘PHANTOM PLANET’ WHOSE POSSIBLE

ORBIT IS TOO ELONGATED TO BE SEEN”



The assertion was based on
statements made to the journal by
Alessandro Morbidelli, an astronomer
at France’s observatory at Côte
d’Azur. The Solar System, he
explained, was chaotic in the
beginning. There was a celestial
collision involving a “supplementary
planet” that had existed where the
Asteroid Belt is now. It happened
about 3.9 billion years ago; and
those events explain the unusual
long elliptical orbit of the
“Phantom Planet.”



“I expect that one day we will discover a new,
Mars-sized planet!” he told the journal with
certainty, a planet whose orbital period is
“several thousand years.” He provided the
journal with a sketch of the planet’s elongated
elliptical orbit and even indicated in the
sketch where the “Phantom Planet” is probably
now:







“It’s Sitchin’s Drawing!”



The article in Science & Vie, with its
sensational statements by the French astronomer,
was brought to my attention (regrettably
belatedly) by a fan in France, who could not
resist writing on the photocopy, above the
sketch: “It’s Sitchin’s drawing!”



Now, were the French astronomer merely
suggesting the existence of one more large
planet far out from the Sun, his announcement
would have been just one more addition to the
decades-long discussions by astronomers
regarding a “planet X” beyond Uranus, Neptune
and Pluto. I, for one, would have welcomed such
an additional affirmation, especially from a
French observatory known for its interest in the
subject.



But the statements by this astronomer went well
beyond a mere suggestion of one more planet; he
added details that could have come only from
reading my books, especially The 12th Planet
(1976) and Genesis Revisited (1990) concerning
NIBIRU, the home planet of the Anunnaki “gods”
of the Sumerians:



* At the beginning the Solar System was
“chaotic” (my exact words);



* There had been a “supplementary planet”
where the Asteroid Belt is now (= Tiamat of the
Sumerian texts);



* A celestial collision ‘rearranged’ the
Solar System (the essence of Enuma Elish if
treated as a cosmogony);



* Based on findings on the Moon, the
collision occurred circa 3.9 billions years ago
(my exact conclusion);



* In the aftermath of the collision, the
Solar System acquired the “Phantom Planet” (=
Nibiru/Marduk);



* Its orbit is elliptical and not circular (a
major aspect of my conclusions);



* At its perigee (closest to the Sun) it
passes between Jupiter and Mars (a key
unorthodox conclusion in my writings);



* The orbit lasts thousands of (Earth-) years
(I applied to it the Sumerian Sar = 3,600).



Moreover, the sketch that Alessandro
Morbidelli provided to the French
journal is not just smiliar to
sketches in my books of Nibiru’s
orbit, but is exactly a copy of the
sketch in Genesis Revisited (Fig.
107) where I indicated Nibiru’s
probable position now:







So What Did They Have To Say?



My French fan (himself an author of
books on UFO’s) lost no time writing
Alessandro Morbidelli at the Côte
d’Azur observatory, pointing out the
similarity. But months passed
without a response. He has also
written to Science & Vie; but
never received an answer…



I asked my editor at Edition Carnot
in Paris, who was preparing a French
translation of Genesis Revisited, to
take up the issue with Science &
Vie. “I think that an intervention
would be more powerful if it comes
not from someone in New York but
from a respected French publisher,
like Carnot,” I wrote to him (oh so
naively…).



I finally heard from him of the
results of his ‘intervention’:



“I talked to the author of the
S&V article, Mrs. Valerie
Greffos. She told me she doubted
Alessandro Morbidelli could have
been inspired by your books.”



Just like that!



He gave me S&V’s phone numbers,
saying it would be useless to try to
write to them.



So I never did.



And to this day I wonder: Should I
be pleased that a respected
astronomer at a leading French
observatory adopted my conclusions
regarding Nibiru and the Sumerian
cosmogony –- or should I be upset
that my life’s work was
“appropriated” without any
acknowledgement and credit to me?

I’m not quite sure how to even start this
article. It is so unusual and timely, that even
the more conservative thinkers have to be
scratching their heads asking themselves…”Is
somebody trying to tell us something”.

Only two days ago I wrote an article telling of
what NASA believes is the beginning of the Solar
Minimum related to Cycle 23. The whole article
was telling of just how unusual it was to see
the beginning of a solar minimum two years
early. It was at this time I reminded all of us
that we “are not” in a typical solar cycle. I
believe we are in a “Mega Cycle”. And of course
I made mention as to how unusual this solar
cycle has been acting. I could go on and on, but
I think it best to simply direct you to October
19th’s article.
Article: Should There Be No Sunspots

So here we are today October 20, 2004 with a hot
off the press announcement of an
M-Class flare firing off the Sun. Today’s
sunspot count is 86, and coming from four pretty
healthy sunspot regions. I would guess today’s
M-Class flare most likely came from region 682.

Also take a good look at the sharp spike of this
flare. Although it does occur from time to time,
I am still wondering if there may be a more
sinister reason for this spike.

Now before you get too crazy, it is very common
for comets to crash into the Sun. The
controversy relates to a comets affect, if any.
I can tell you most astrophysicists view such an
event as less than flea on a bears butt.
However, I’m not so sure if this is always the
case. I believe there are energy fields not yet
defined that may play a role. But let me make
this clear. What I am saying now is pure
conjecture. I have no evidence whatsoever to
make such a case. I’m just saying “it is my
hunch”.

I know we have the coming of a “Blood Red Moon”
occurring October 27th which is also a full
lunar eclipse. See Article Here. Then of course
we have Mount St. Helens ready to blow any day,
and Mt Vesuvius is on high alert. Did I mention
the continuing “swarm” at Long Valley Caldera?
Now there wouldn’t be a 6.5 to 7.0 earthquake
about to happen in the continental United
States, would there? Sorry folks, just making a
little fun, or am I...
Sometimes I’m called out for being too
sensational, this could be one of those times,
then again, it could be one of those intuitive
moments. Only time will tell.

COMMENT: These sinkholes and train derailments, as
well as pipeline
breakages, could all be signs that the ground
underneath our feet is
shifting on a worldwide level. This was predicted in
Hazelwood's book
as a sign of the approach of Planet X. Other signs
include wild weather,
increased earthquakes, even in places they shouldn't
be, and also the
massive increase in volcanic activity. The
observations of things not
being in the right place in the heavens could be a
sign of an earth wobble
just prior to the earth falling over on its side like
a top, which is also
predicted, both in Hazelwood's book and in Bible
prophecy. IN fact, the
approach of Planet X, which is probably not a
"planet" as we know it, but
that is a totally DIFFERENT story, can indeed be the
root cause of many if
not all of the plagues in end time prophecy, and
would be one reason that
"Heavenly signs" were mentioned in prophecy, along
with the statement that
"the wise shall understand." But one of the things
that the "wise shall
understand" is that even though there is a scientific
explanation for this
whole thing, we understand that it is GOD who stands
behind it all, and Who
is in control of everything.

But mankind will not understand this. They will
think that this is a
"natural" occurrance, and will therefore not heed
God's call to
repentance. When we delve into the subject of what
exactly "Planet X"
really is, this will become very clear to you.

ARMAGEDDON could be closer than we think.

Research by a Welsh astronomer suggests Earth's
chances of suffering
a collision with a comet are higher than
previously thought.

Chandra Wickramasinghe, of Cardiff University's
Centre for
Astrobiology, and Bill Napier, of Armagh
Observatory, suggest there
may be hundreds of invisible "dark" comets close
to earth that cannot
be detected by normal optical telescopes.

If proven, present-day international programmes
designed to detect
near earth bodies may be in need of urgent review.

Most asteroids are detected by Earth-based
optical telescopes but
dark comets can only be spotted by more
expensive space-based infra-
red telescopes.

Prof Wickramasinghe said, "It's a scary
possibility that we are
missing maybe a hundred times the number of near
earth threatening
objects. We will have to rethink the whole
business of mitigating
strategies."

Jay Tate, of Powys' Spaceguard Centre, a leading
UK source of
information about near earth objects, described
the report as a
warning shot across the bows.

"It's a problem which has been highlighted for
some time but what
Chandra Wickramasinghe and Bill Napier have done
is put some science
behind the gut feeling.

Current status is Volcano Advisory (Alert Level

Growth of the new lava dome inside the crater of
Mount St. Helens

continues. As long as this eruption is in
progress, episodic changes

in the level of activity can occur over days,
weeks, or even months.

Increase in the intensity of eruption could
occur suddenly or with

very little warning and may include explosive
events that produce

hazardous conditions within several miles of the
volcano. Under

current conditions, small lahars (volcanic
debris flows) could

suddenly descend the Toutle River valley if they
are triggered by

heavy rain or by interaction of hot rocks with
snow or glacier ice.

Such lahars pose negligible hazard below the
Sediment Retention

Structure (SRS), but could pose a hazard to
people along the river

channel upstream of the SRS. Owing to weather
and stream-flow

conditions at this time of year, it is not
unusual for rivers

draining the volcano to contain high
concentrations of sediment that

turn the water murky. Although considered less
likely at this time,

eruptive activity could evolve into a more
explosive phase that

affects areas farther from the volcano and sends
significant ash

thousands of feet above the crater where it
could be a hazard to

aircraft and to downwind communities.

Wind forecasts from the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric

Administration (NOAA), coupled with eruption
models, show that any

ash clouds that rise above the crater rim today
will drift

northeastward to eastward later in the day.

Seismicity has increased slightly in the past 24
hours, but remains

at a low level overall. Some of the higher
seismicity is due to storm

noise. Overnight, rainfall triggered a small
debris flow that flowed

north from the crater and changed rapidly to
muddy streamflow within

5 km of the volcano. Global Positioning System
(GPS) measurements

continue to indicate only minor deformation of
the northern part of

the 1980-86 lava dome and no deformation of the
outer flanks of the

volcano. Poor weather yesterday prevented
geological observations.

The current level and character of seismicity
are consistent with a

continuing rise of magma driving uplift of the
crater floor and

feeding the surface extrusion of lava. Low rates
of seismicity and

gas emission suggest that the lava reaching the
surface is gas poor.

Field crews will not be out in today's poor
weather. When weather

conditions improve, we will continue geologic
observations, thermal

imaging, and making improvements in telemetry
systems.

We continue to monitor the situation closely and
will issue

additional updates and changes in alert level as
warranted.

Sanhedrin, the highest Jewish-legal tribunal in
the Land of Israel.

The Sanhedrin, a religious assembly that
convened in one of the Holy Temple chambers in
Jerusalem, comprised 71 sages and existed during
the Tannaitic period, from several decades
before the Common Era until roughly 425 C.E.
Details of today's ceremony are still sketchy,
but the organizers' announced their intention to
convene 71 rabbis who have received special
rabbinic ordination as specified by Maimonides.

An attempt to reconvene the Sanhedrin was made
several centuries ago in Tzfat. The body in fact
ordained such greats as Rabbi Yosef Karo, the
author of the classic Jewish Law code Shulhan
Arukh. However, the opposition of other leading
rabbis soon forced the end of the endeavor.

One of the leaders of today's attempt to revive
the Sanhedrin is Rabbi Yeshai Ba'avad of Beit
El. He said that the 71 rabbis "from across the
spectrum received the special ordination, in
accordance with Maimonides' rulings, over the
past several months." Rabbi Ba'avad explained
that the membership of the new body is not
permanent: "What is much more crucial is the
establishment of this body. Those who are
members of it today will not necessarily be its
members tomorrow. But the goal is to have one
rabbinic body in Jerusalem that will convene
monthly and issue rulings on central issues.
This is the need of the generation and of the
hour."

Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, who heads the Temple
institute in Jerusalem, is one of the
participating
rabbis. He told Arutz-7 today, "Whether this
will be the actual Sanhedrin that we await, is a
question of time - just like the establishment
of the State; we rejoiced in it, but we are
still awaiting something much more ideal. It's a
process. Today's ceremony is really the
continuation of the renewal of the Ordination
process in Israel, which we marked several
months ago. Our Talmudic Sages describe the ten
stages of exile of the Sanhedrin from Jerusalem
to other locations, until it ended in Tiberias -
and this is the place where it was foretold that
it would be renewed, and from here it will be
relocated to Jerusalem."

Rabbi Ariel said that the rabbis there included
many from the entire spectrum:
"Hareidi, religious-Zionist, Sephardi,
Ashkenazi, hassidi, and many others - such as
Rabbi Yoel Schwartz, Rabbi Adin Shteinzaltz, and
many others... We can't expect a great
consensus; that's not how things work here. But
sometimes that's how the process goes, from the
bottom up."

"Engineering the weather is duck soup; they
tested that over the U.S. in 1967, and entered
upon continuing operations over North America on
July 4, 1976 as a grim kind of KGB "Bicentennial

"First, the interferometers can deliberately
make "high pressure areas" (cool the air so it
shrinks and its "footprint" pressure on the
ground increases because its density increases)
and "low pressure areas" (heat the air so that

Well, if one makes the highs and lows where one
wishes them, and judiciously and somewhat slowly
moves them along a given path, these highs and
lows will entrain the jet streams and thus
"steer" the weather.

"So if you wish a very cold snap or attack, go
up into Canada and start these actions to steer
down some streams that bring some very frigid
air. Establish other highs and lows judiciously
to "block" or "slow" other jet streams and flows
as desired. In this way, one can pull the "large
cold air masses coming down from Canada" deep
into the southern U.S. at will. They do it
regularly. If you wish an ice storm, add an
additional current of warm moist air you bring
up (steer up by using artificial highs and lows)
from the ocean. Where they meet, you will get
freezing rain, then sleet, then severe icing
accumulating. This type of attack does rather
large damage to the struck area."

of cloud anomalies which reveal the underlying
grid along which the clouds are forming or
un-forming. Bearden relates a startling incident
in these ongoing "weather wars."

into law a bill requiring the State Department
to monitor global anti-Semitism and rate
countries annually on their treatment of Jews.
"This nation will keep watch; we will make sure
that the ancient impulse of anti-Semitism never
finds a home in the modern world," Bush said as
he campaigned in the key battleground state of
Florida. The state's Jewish population is the
third largest in the world after Israel and New
York.
The department had opposed the legislation,
saying it was unnecessary as it already compiles
such information in its annual reports on human
rights and religious freedom.
"Defending freedom also means disrupting the
evil of anti-Semitism," Bush told thousands of
cheering supporters packed into a sports arena
usually used by the Florida Panthers
professional ice hockey team.
"Today, I signed the Global Anti-Semitism Review
Act of 2004. This law permits the government to
keep a record of anti-Semitic acts throughout
the world, and also a record of responses to
those acts," he said.
Florida is the richest haul among the
battleground states expected to decide the
November 2 presidential election, with 27
electoral college votes out of the 270 needed to
win.
Jewish voters are thought to favour Democrats
historically, but the Bush campaign hopes that
his strong support for Israel and aggressive
outreach efforts could win a majority of
Florida's sizeable Jewish community.
The State Department had drawn fire for its
position from Jewish groups - which wield
significant political power, especially during a
presidential election year - and in September,
more than 100 prominent Americans signed a
letter to US Secretary of State Colin Powell
saying that stance was wrong.
"The fight against anti-Semitism deserves
specific, focused attention," said the letter
that was signed by former Republican
vice-presidential nominee Jack Kemp and ex-UN
ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick among others.
The bill, known as the Global Anti-Semitism
Awareness Act of 2004, was introduced by
California Democratic Representative Tom Lantos,
the only Holocaust survivor in the US Congress,
in response to recent acts of anti-Semitism in
Europe and the Middle East.
Jewish groups have hailed passage of the bill,
which they said provided a new avenue to fight
anti-Semitism.
Under the legislation, the State Department will
have to produce an annual report on
anti-Semitism around the world and form a
specific office headed by a special envoy to
document anti-Semitic abuses and design
strategies to combat them.
It requires the department to document acts of
physical violence against Jews, their property,
cemeteries and places of worship abroad, as well
as local governments' responses to them and take
note of instances of anti-Jewish propaganda and
governments' readiness to promote unbiased
school curricula.
By tradition, Bush, who signed the legislation
on his official Air Force One jet on his way to
Florida, will treat the law's requirements more
like strong advice and guiding principles
because of the separation of powers.

rogue electors, are swords that can cut both
ways, and with a reach that surpasses
security systems, the Supreme Court is not
immune from intimidation by an enraged Puppet
Master. The sole remaining recourse, then, of
a Puppet determined to establish itself as an
independent unit going into and emerging from
the coming pole shift as rulers on the N.
American continent and in control of the
tatters of the US Military, assumed to be
preeminent in the world after the shift as it
was before the shift, is to trigger Martial
Law. This has long been put into place in the
US with Executive Orders to allow FEMA to
take over the land in the event of disasters,
but this requires a disaster. This has been
superseded by Homeland Security, which has
been given broad command over federal, state,
and local resources as well as the US
Military when a threat to the US is involved.

*Genetic Enslavement?

Apparently, scientists have figured out a way to
manipulate genes in monkeys so that they do not
become bored with repetitive task; rather, the
article states that the subjects were turned
"from aggressive to 'compliant' creatures". The
article goes on to say that human gene
manipulation in this area is just around the
corner. With respect to that, Julian Savulescu,
a professor of ethics at Oxford University, says
"Genetically manipulating people to become
slaves is not in their interests, but there are
other changes that might be. We have to make
choices about what makes a good life for an
individual."
Two things about Savulescu's statement really
bother me -- first, the fact that human beings
may soon have the capability to enslave people
not only physically or mentally, but also
genetically. The first two states can be
reversed, but could a genetically altered human
be returned to their original state? That's a
question for which I have no answer. The second
frightening thing is to hear a supposed scholar
declare that other human beings have the right
to determine what constitutes a good life for
another human being. Talk about playing God! We
all know the old sayings "the best laid plans. .
." and "absolute power corrupts absolutely". As
much as the world would like to believe that
humans are essentially good, Scripture says that
it just isn't the case. So who are we to decide
another person's fate? Could you really trust
someone else to have that kind of power over
your life? I believe we are treading on very
dangerous ground here physically as well as
spiritually.
In "Identity Badge Worn Under Skin Approved for
Use in Health Care", Applied Digital Solutions
(ADS) CEO Scott R. Silverman is of the opinion
that FDA approval removes "the creepy factor"
about implant technology. But he ponders whether
the use of implants can overcome the opposition
of those (read "Christians") who believe the
technology may have a connection to the mythical
mark of the beast mentioned in the book of
Revelation. However, Silverman does say that "we
believe far fewer people are resisting this
[technology] today".
He goes on to say, "I've believed all along that

fairly well-known in politics, advertising, and
other areas of society that slow immersion,
constantly applied, is a most effective way to
desensitize a population. And this tactic seems
to be working for ADS. A little bit here; a
little bit there. And finally, we can't live
without it.
The journalist who wrote the article then makes
a statement that really hit home for me: "Still,
the science-fiction specter of a nation of
drones tagged with sub-dermal bar codes may be a
difficult image for the company to overcome in
selling its technology."
Did she say "drones"? Can you say "connect the
dots"? Suppose that the folks at ADS truly do
have man's best interests at heart. They want to
help protect people by using VeriChip for
medical applications. Later down the road,
though, we suffer another huge terrorist attack,
and the government pushes people to accept the
chip for security reasons. Then, for ultimate
security, we logically move to using the
technology in our financial transactions.
However, a percentage of the population still
refuses to accept what it is being forced upon
them. Would the government, then manipulate
their genes to make them compliant - for their
good and the good of society? A state from which
they would have no desire to change, even if it
were possible. What if this technology falls
into the hands of another Hitler or Hussein (or
worse)? Sounds like science fiction, doesn't it?

LONDON - Scientists have discovered a way of
manipulating a gene that turns animals into
drones that do not become bored with repetitive
tasks. The experiments, conducted on monkeys,
are the first to demonstrate that animal
behaviour can be permanently changed, turning
the subjects from aggressive to "compliant"
creatures.
The genes are identical in humans and although
the discovery could help to treat depression and
other types of mental illness, it will raise
images of the Epsilon caste from Aldous Huxley's
futuristic novel Brave New World.
The experiments -- detailed in the journal
Nature Neuroscience this month -- involved
blocking the effect of a gene called D2 in a
particular part of the brain. This cut off the
link between the rhesus monkeys' motivation and
reward.
Instead of speeding up with the approach of a
deadline or the prospect of a "treat," the
monkeys in the experiment could be made to work
just as enthusiastically for long periods. The
scientists say the identical technique would
apply to humans.
"Most people are motivated to work hard and well
only by the expectation of reward, whether it's
a paycheque or a word of praise," said Barry
Richmond, a government neurobiologist at the
U.S. National Institute of Mental Health, who
led the project. "We found we could remove that
link and create a situation where repetitive,
hard work would continue without any reward."
The experiments involved getting rhesus monkeys
to operate levers in response to colour changes
on screens in front of them. Normally they work
hardest and fastest with the fewest mistakes if
they think a reward for the "work" is imminent.
However, Mr. Richmond's team found that they
could make the monkeys work their hardest and
fastest all the time, without any complaint or
sign of slacking, just by manipulating D2 so
that they forgot about the expectation of
reward.
The original purpose of the research was to find
ways of treating mental illness, but the
technicalities of permanently altering human
behaviour by gene manipulation are currently too
complex, he said.
However, he and other scientists acknowledge
that methods of manipulating human physical and
psychological traits are just around the corner,
and the technology will emerge first as a
lucrative add-on available from in vitro
fertilization clinics.
"There's no doubt we will be able to influence
behaviour," said Julian Savulescu, a professor
of ethics at Oxford University.
"Genetically manipulating people to become
slaves is not in their interests, but there are
other changes that might be. We have to make
choices about what makes a good life for an
individual."
In a presentation at a Royal Society meeting
titled Designing Babies: What the Future Holds,
Yuri Verlinsky, a scientist from the University
of Chicago who is at the forefront of embryo
manipulation, said: "As infertility customers
are investing so much time, money and effort
into having a baby, shouldn't they have a
healthy one and what is to stop them picking a
baby for its physical and psychological traits?"
Gregory Stock, author of Redesigning Humans and
an ethics specialist from the University of
California, agrees.
"I don't think these kind of interventions are
exactly round the corner, they are a few years
away, but I don't think they are going to be
stopped by legislation," he said.

The Food and Drug Administration has cleared the
way for a Florida company to market implantable
chips that would provide easy access to
individual medical records.
The approval, which the company announced
yesterday, is expected to bring to public
attention a simmering debate over a technology
that has evoked Orwellian overtones for privacy
advocates and fueled fears of widespread
tracking of people with implanted radio
frequency tags, even though that ability does
not yet exist.
Applied Digital Solutions, based in Delray
Beach, Fla., said that its devices, which it
calls VeriChips, could save lives and limit
injuries from errors in medical treatment. And
it expressed hope that such medical uses would
accelerate the acceptance of under-the-skin ID
chips as security and access-control devices.
Scott R. Silverman, chairman and chief executive
of Applied Digital, said the F.D.A.'s approval
should help the company overcome "the creepy
factor" of implanted tags and the suspicion it
has stirred.
"We believe there are far fewer people resisting
this today," Mr. Silverman said. But it is far
from clear whether implanted identification tags
can overcome opposition from those who fear new
levels of personal surveillance and from some
fundamentalist religious groups who contend that
the tags may be the "mark of the beast" referred
to in the Book of Revelation.
In Applied Digital's vision, patients implanted
with the chips could receive more effective care
because doctors, other emergency-room personnel
and ambulance crews equipped with Applied's
handheld radio scanners would be able to read a
unique 16-digit number on the chip.
The chip does not contain any records, but with
the number, the care provider would be able to
retrieve medical information about blood type,
drug histories and other critical data stored in
computers. The records could be easily updated.
Tiny radio frequency identification, or RFID,
tags similar to VeriChip have been embedded in
livestock and pets in the millions in recent
years as a more secure form of identification
than external tags. But no device maker has yet
been able to create a market for human
implantable tags like VeriChip, which are the
size of a grain of rice and are inserted under
the skin of the arm or hand with a syringe.
Applied Digital's distributors overseas have
achieved some highly publicized, if limited
successes. This summer, Rafael Macedo de la
Concha, Mexico's attorney general, announced
that he and scores of his subordinates had
received implanted chips that control access to
a secure room and documents considered vital in
Mexico's struggle with drug cartels.
Also, Solusat, the sole distributor of VeriChip
in Mexico, says about 1,000 people have received
the chip implants to link to their medical
records. "You can have all the benefits of radio
identification," a Solusat executive, Antonio
Aceves, said, "but now it is inside your body."
In March, the Baja Beach Club in Barcelona began
offering VeriChips to regular patrons who wanted
to dispense with traditional identification and
credit cards. About 50 "V.I.P.'s" have received
the chip so far, according to a spokesman, which
allows them to link their identities to a
payment system. The program has been expanded to
a club in Rotterdam also owned by Baja, and
about 35 people there have signed up for the
implants, the company said.
VeriChip announced last week that it had signed
a distribution agreement with a British company,
Surge IT Solutions, which it said intended to
use the technology to control access to
government facilities. And Antonia Giorgio
Antonucci, an Italian doctor, is leading a study
using VeriChip at the National Institute for
Infectious Diseases Lazzaro Spallanzani in Rome.

"We want to see if the doctors think the device
is practical or not," Dr. Antonucci said.
Applied Digital has been free to sell VeriChip
in the United States for nonmedical
applications, but lack of acceptance of the
technology made F.D.A. approval for medical uses
a high priority.
"I've believed all along that the medical
application was the best, followed by security
and financial applications," Mr. Silverman said.
Still, the science-fiction specter of a nation
of drones tagged with sub-dermal bar codes may
be a difficult image for the company to overcome
in selling its technology.
Online conspiracy theorists, for example, often
attach abilities to the technology that do not
exist, like the ability to track individuals via
satellite.
But real privacy concerns have emerged. "At the
point you place the chip beneath the skin,
you're saying you will not have the ability to
remove the ID tracking device," said Marc
Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic
Privacy Information Center, a public interest
advocacy group in Washington. "I think,
increasingly, if this takes off - and it's still
not clear that it will - the real social debate
begins around prisoners and parolees, and
perhaps even visitors to the U.S. That's where
the interest in being able to identify and track
people is."
Indeed, the debate over civil liberties and
privacy has made discussing any practical
benefits of a technology like VeriChip harder.
"The fact that we're engaged in such a deep,
fundamental privacy debate really does
complicate the prospect for this kind of
technology," said Clyde Wayne Crews Jr.,
director of technology studies at the
Competitive Enterprise Institute, a regulatory
research group in Washington. "We haven't even
sorted out the appropriateness of a RFID tag
that goes on a pallet of tomatoes," Mr. Crews
said, "much less one that can go under a
person's skin."
Applied Digital has tried to counter such
concerns by arguing that the implantation of
chips is voluntary and the only records linked
to a VeriChip will be those authorized by the
person with the chip.
But critics say that if the technology gains a
foothold, employers, government authorities and
others with power over individuals could dictate
how it is used. For instance, if chips

current scanners cannot read the passive chip
from more than a few feet away. But design
advances or the addition of a separate power
source for the chip could expand those ranges

Mr. Silverman has said that the current chip
could help managers of high-security
installations like nuclear power plants locate
people in the building because scanners in
doorways should be able to track who enters and
leaves a room.
Applied Digital has VeriChip distribution
agreements with companies in several states, but
those have been largely dormant. It said it
hoped to find big medical distribution companies
to market the chip to doctors' offices,
specialty clinics and emergency rooms.

large orthopedics companies to demonstrate the
value of linking the chip to medical devices
like hip and knee implants.
Mr. Silverman said that surveys had shown that
14 percent to 22 percent of people would
consider having the implant, but more than 80
percent of those surveyed said they would
consider having the implant if the question was
framed to show a medical benefit from the chip.
Applied Digital, which has been losing money for
years, cautioned yesterday that it did not
expect substantial revenue or profit from
VeriChip anytime soon. But investors were
optimistic enough about the F.D.A. news to send
the company's shares up 68 percent, to close at
$3.57 yesterday. Shares of Digital Angel, a
subsidiary of Applied Digital that makes animal
tags and manufactures the VeriChip, rose nearly
29 percent, to $3.49.

How would you go about hiding the fact that the
Earth has been struck by 64 major earthquakes in
one week? According to the website of the United
States Geographic Survey (USGS), there were no less
than 64 earthquakes recorded globally between 19
September and 25 September, 2004. These were no
lightweights, either. Take for example a magnitude
5.9 in Fiji, 5.8 in California and a 5.2 in
Indonesia. Most of the others hovered around the
3.1 to 5.0 mark - enough to cause substantial
damage in most instances.

That so many quakes are being felt everywhere from
Russia to Chile should be of major concern to
everyone. Yet how many news articles have you read
about them? None. There seems to be a concerted
effort to deny the reality of these events. Oh
well, so what? Surely there are other things more
important to report? Perhaps. Let's continue.

During September there has also been a dramatic
increase in global volcanic activity. Again, I
refer to the USGS. Are you aware that there are
currently 15 major volcanic eruptions occurring?
The scale of activity ranges from an increase in
lava flow to outright violent explosions and
ejections. Here's some:

Asama, Japan, erupted violently for three straight
days to 16 September, spewing ash and rock one
kilometre into the air and setting off one
thousand minor earthquakes.

Fuego, Guatemala, erupted in a series of ten major
explosions on 16 September.

Mauna Loa, Hawaii, saw a great increase in overall
volcanic activity which set off more than five
hundred small earthquakes beneath the summit
caldera.

It is a similar story for Pacaya and Santa Maria,
Guatemala; Shisaldin, Aleutian Islands; Soufriere
Hills, West Indies; Shiveluch, Kliuchevskoi and
Karymsky in Russia; Spurr and Veniaminoff, Alaska;
and Etna, Italy.

So, as well as earthquake activity, most of the
world's volcanos are set to blow. Wouldn't you
think this should rate a mention in the news? Add
to this the other aberrant global events. Need I
mention, especially to those poor folks in
Florida, the four hurricanes which have struck that
region in less than five weeks?

It does not take the brightest light on the
Christmas tree to know that something is very
wrong here. Why is there such a united front on the
part of the world's media to withhold this
information? News only oozes out when it is
unavoidable. It is probably impossible to hide the
fact of the Florida hurricanes. Yet the stories
soon disappear to page 25 and beyond. Next month
there will be no further mention of them.

Try to find a story about the spate of meteorites
coming to ground in the past year. Astronomers
should be having a field day, yet nothing is said.
Even when a house in New Zealand was destroyed by
an incoming rock, little was reported.

So, let me spell it out for you. The Earth is
experiencing unprecedented phenomena which
indicate that a major global upheaval is imminent.

the US election, the Iraq War, the cost of oil,
and the Australian Election (at least in Oz). Then
there's Reality TV to numb our cognitive abilities

They also don't tell us that most of the world's
navies are currently centered in the Pacific and
Atlantic Oceans on 'exercises'. Read: the safest
place for a ship during a cataclysm.

Also, most of the world's astronomers are focusing
their attention on the activities at Dome C,
Antarctica. Have the Norwegian contingent really
gone missing? Or is this just a rumour?

And what is happening at Mirikata? Don't tell me
"nothing"!

Could it be that the Big Event is about to hit? The
event for which the entire Iraq War is a
smokescreen - the Event over which 20 astronomers
from Pic de Bur observatory were killed in a
cable-car accident?

For those of us who have memories going back more
than two weeks, the pieces are falling into place.
